History/Timeline
Starting in 2016, UC Irvine began developing a suite of tools to help faculty, administrators and decision-makers promote student success across campus. Teaching and Learning Analytics (TLA) was the first resource to gain traction, followed by Enrollment Management Analytics (EMA) in 2019. Our research efforts surrounding data-driven student success also grew, with the formation of UCI MUST and PERI², important partnerships between the School of Education and the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning. Over the last few years, the Office of Data and Information Technology has begun to unify these grassroots efforts under Compass, collaborative effort between units to identify, collect, and analyze relevant data to promote student success across campus. Data Governance
The protection and stewardship of student data is critical. Our Student Data Governance Council oversees the collection, generation, analysis, management, and dissemination of institutional student data. It is staffed with institutional leaders and subject matter experts to create a forum for thoughtful and robust dialogue. Together we ensure that data is used for good—verifying that data-driven insights and actionable analytics are consistent with our mission and values and aligned with our dedication to helping our students succeed.
